Bike to Shop is a month-long Metro Vancouver-wide initiative presented by HUB Cycling that aims to showcase the joy and convenience of shopping by bike by breaking down the barriers that many people face when using a bike to run errands like grocery shopping.

Whether you're a seasoned bike commuter or new to cycling, HUB Cycling is here to show you that shopping by bike is easier than you think.

Bike-to-Shop invites residents across Metro Vancouver to experience the joy of cycling in these participating neighborhoods:

  • Austin Heights, Coquitlam
  • Central Lonsdale, North Vancouver
  • Downtown, Vancouver
  • Downtown, New Westminster
  • Kerrisdale Village, Vancouver
  • Newton, Surrey
  • Steveston, Richmond
  • The Amazing Brentwood, Burnaby

1. Explore Interactive Maps: Check out our interactive maps showcasing participating neighborhoods, bike parking, safe routes, and bike-friendly businesses.

2. Plan Your Adventure: Choose a neighborhood, plan your route, and get ready to bike to local shops. Use resources on bikehub.ca/biketoshop  and HUB’s social media channels (see below for channel info) for tips.

4. Visit us at a Bike to Shop Pop-up station: We’ll be popping up on Vancouver’s seawall and  Farmers Markets in Coquitlam and Richmond this summer. Stop by for advice on shopping by bike, to pick up regional cycling maps, and more. Check out the pop-up station dates and times:

5. Make a Pledge to Shop by Bike this Summer: Let your voice be heard by making a pledge to shop by bike this summer. We’ll follow up in fall to ask about your summer riding and how we can make the event even better next year.  By sharing your valuable feedback, you’ll be entered to win one of five $100 TransLink Compass cards you can use for your fall multi-mode journeys.

[MAIN TEXT]

If you are looking for more affordable ways to shop, HUB Cycling is challenging you to shop by bike this summer! For every $100 spent at a local business, it is estimated that $68 remains in the community, and by saving money on fuel and parking, you’ll have extra to spend at your favorite local shops.

To help people feel comfortable getting on their bikes to help their community thrive, HUB Cycling’s interactive Bike-to-Shop neighborhood maps highlight safe cycling routes into participating neighborhoods, local bike parking, and repair shops and showcase local businesses that support cycling!

Whether it's a quick trip to the grocery store or a visit to a local boutique, shopping by bike allows you to take in your surroundings from a different viewpoint and discover unknown treasures just a bike ride away. Throughout August, HUB Cycling will host a weekly scavenger hunt photo contest on their Instagram account to encourage people to explore their local surroundings and unique businesses in the area.

Ride into each neighborhood to explore and uncover hidden gems and local landmarks to win prizes from partners, including Bard on the Beach, Duer, Simons, TransLink and Sporting Life at The Amazing Brentwood.

[OPTIONAL ADDITION]

In addition to their interactive neighborhood maps, HUB will be popping up at these farmers markets in Coquitlam and Richmond to share free cycling resources and answer any questions you may have about shopping by bike across Metro Vancouver:

  • Sun, August 6, from 9 am - 1:00 pm at Coquitlam Farmers Market
  • Sun, August 20, from 10:30 am - 3:30 pm at Steveston Farmers Market
