Parks Board Does Not Support Restoring 2-Way Traffic on Stanley Park Drive
Meeting Date:
Parks Board Vote to block City Council decision to return two-way traffic to Beach Avenue
Yes, thank you Anthony a very interesting presentation, and I also read the letter that HUB Cycling sent to the Park Board earlier today. Thank you for all of that.
Now there was an assumption you made at the start that City Council has approved the two-way traffic on Beach Ave, but actually that was, as was pointed out, hopefully, is subject to Park Board approval, from the get-go. And that's what City Council said. So I'm just wondering, maybe whether your ambitions on your response are maybe a bit tame, because if Park Board did not want to support two lane traffic, two-way traffic on Beach Ave. Do you think HUB would would maybe go for that, or would accept that, if that was on the table that this board could potentially just reject the concept altogether?.. it's been such a victory to have this bike lane. With a few minor concerns, it can still be resolved
Meeting Date:
ABC Motion to Remove the Temporary Bike Lane from Stanley Park
...There were two parties that were public about their opposition to this bike lane, and both of them were, none of them are represented at this table. Because had you raised this issue publicly, it would have been clear what you were bringing on to the city.
And there are so many people, it's been such a victory to have this bike lane. With a few minor concerns, it can still be resolved. Now here's what I'd like to do.
I'd like to move a motion to, because the previous board at least had the courage to hear from the public on this issue. I'd like to move a motion. If I could put it up there, thank you, clerk, that staff be directed to report back to the board with a planning, whoops, that's not my motion, a motion to refer the motion to the board committee for public hearing at the next available public park board meeting.
Removing the Stanley Park Bike Lane was not a campaign pledge of the ABC party in the recent municipal election
Meeting Date:
ABC Motion to Remove the Temporary Bike Lane from Stanley Park
So let's start at the beginning. I've heard from some of you that this is an ABC campaign pledge that we're implementing tonight. For the clear public record, this motion was not a campaign pledge of the ABC party in the recent municipal election.
The five different park board public debates, we sat together, all of you. I sat beside all of you, and not once did any of you mention Stanley Park, let alone the bike lane. And I read your platform from end to end.
There was not one mention of Stanley Park in it at all, let alone the Stanley Park bike lane. So the only thing we had from ABC in this election was one lonely comment posted on the HUB website, which was a commitment to make the bike lane permanent.
