Serious implications to traffic and pedestrian and cyclists safety on Cornwall Avenue
Meeting Date:
Introducing motion to reduce traffic speeds on Cornwall Avenue to protect pedestrians and cyclists
I think though, this is a reflection of, you know, some pretty serious implications to traffic and safety for pedestrians and cyclists along Cornwall Avenue. And we've heard from many members of the public about how important this is.
And of course, we had some pretty serious incidents in the past. Involved a car jumping up onto the curb and striking and injuring a child. We know that we've introduced similar kind of pilots to reduce speeds on arterials already.
And so the timing of this is rather coinciding with the long-awaited school slow streets on arterials. But I think that there's an imminent and preeminent need for this kind of speed reduction, given the popularity of Cornwall in the summer months. And this would be something great to initiate and move forward right now.
I think it's ludicrous to assume that we can have a safe, welcoming, great street with people on scooters zipping down the sidewalk
Meeting Date:
Motion to Remove Active Transportation Infrastructure from Broadway Project
I think it's ludicrous to assume that we can have a safe, welcoming, great street with people on scooters zipping down the sidewalk. It's not going to happen. It's not a safe street.
It doesn't become a pedestrian-friendly street. It actually becomes, like, more of an awkward street to navigate. And we know that if we're going to talk about patios and restaurants, we're going to have food delivery guys.
This is an opportunity to really think forward, think future, and do it right now. So I'm not going to support this amendment. I really wish there was more of an opportunity to have more of a conversation around how we could land something on option two, because I think that is the best way to go.
We can have the patio. We can have the sidewalks. And we can have the separated active transportation lanes
Meeting Date:
Motion to Remove Active Transportation Infrastructure from Broadway Project
It's not going to be more practical to revisit this later. In fact, there will be more encumbrance because nobody's going to want to rip up Broadway again. I guarantee you that.
And we'll never see this happen. And, you know, we really can have it all. We can have the trees.
We can have the patio. We can have the sidewalks. And we can have the separated active transportation lanes.
