HUB Cycling is seeking an Executive Director to lead a growing, entrepreneurial organization getting more people cycling more often in Metro Vancouver and throughout BC. General responsibilities:

The role of the Executive Director is to contribute to and implement the Board's strategic plans for the organization in a cost-effective and time-efficient manner. The Executive Director is also responsible for the day-to-day operation of the organization, including managing staff, participating on appropriate committees, and developing business plans in collaboration with the Board to help achieve the mission of the organization.

The Executive Director works with the Director of Program Development, Director of Operations, Director of Bike Education, Director of Partnerships and Events, and the Director of Campaigns & Inclusion to manage staff, programs, services, membership, fundraising, budget, organization assets, and all other organization resources, to help make the best use of them and raise the organization's impact and profile in the region. The Executive Director is accountable to the President of the Board and reports to the Board on a regular basis.

Specific responsibilities:

Strategy, Operations, Program Development (40% of time)

  • Implement HUB’s overall Strategic Plan as set by the HUB Board
  • Collaborate with the HUB Board to update and renew the strategic plan every five years
  • Report on Strategic Plan Key Performance Indicators and progress on goals regularly to the Board
  • Oversee the health of the overall HUB Cycling budget and ensure the organization is well-resourced to deliver on its strategic plan
  • In coordination with the staff directors, develop and implement an annual operating plan
  • Liaise with Board committees to ensure their input is incorporated into planning

People Management (30% of time)

  • Manage staff and ensure their targets are being met, provide guidance to better achieve our mission:
    • Direct reports: Director of Program Development, Director of Operations, Director of Bike Education, Director of Partnerships and Events, and the Director of Campaigns & Inclusion
    • There are approximately 23 office staff and about 25 staff instructors 
  • Cultivate a workplace culture that promotes diversity, equity, and inclusion to create a welcoming, inclusive organization

Advocacy, Public Representation & External Partnerships (30% of time)

  • Facilitate external policy development as it intersects with advocacy staff, the Board Regional Advisory Committee and the Board
  • Provide leadership on advocacy for cycling improvements with regional or provincial impacts, including Motor Vehicle Act reform, ICBC reform, Everyone Rides Grade 4-5 funding and systemic integration, cycle highways, etc
  • Facilitate effective action work with external stakeholders, to represent HUB Cycling as professional, reliable and valuable to decision-making processes regarding cycling in Metro Vancouver
  • Build the HUB Cycling brand across the region, to increase general public awareness and to clearly showcase each program as a HUB program.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with municipalities, First Nations, funders,  and partners, particularly growing relationships with equity-deserving and sovereignty-deserving communities
  • Represent HUB Cycling in public/political/media issues and events
  • Build cross-organizational relationships 
  • Other duties as required and identified by the Board of Directors

 

Qualifications:

  • Senior management experience, ideally including work in non-profit organizations 
  • Experience of working closely with Board of Directors or similar structure
  • Strategic thinking that can be translated into operational successes
  • Organizational budget oversight experience, experience with an enterprising non-profit is an asset
  • Experience of organizational change management
  • Ability to build positive relationships with a diverse set of people and rally support and consensus
  • Ability to develop and nurture cross-organizational relationships and partnerships
  • Ability to coordinate effective advocacy and campaign strategies
  • Self-starter, able to take initiative and deliver on time
  • Able to work independently and collaborate with others
  • Able to delegate and prioritize in demanding situations
  • Proven verbal and written communication skills, with ability to write clearly and persuasively
  • Computer skills: word-processing, spreadsheets, PDF, email. experience with Google Suite, CRMs is an asset
  • Flexibility, interpersonal skills, and enthusiasm are key to success in this position
  • Familiarity with HUB Cycling and its programs and action preferred
  • Proven fundraising ability is an asset
  • Love of cycling for transportation preferred

Terms: 

This is a staff position, 35 hours per week. The 2023 annual salary range for the position is $87,250-$98,000, subject to review in the coming months. Health and dental benefits included. Hybrid work environment; all staff are expected to work partially remotely, with 1 or more days a week in our shared office space at 312 Main Street, Vancouver, BC.
