The Broadway corridor is one of the most well served active transportation corridors in the city
Meeting Date:
Staff recommendation to Remove Active Transportation Lanes from Broadway Road Design
"Full disclosure, every single person in my family, we are avid cyclists. We love to mountain bike ride. We like to road ride....So needless to say, I am very pro-bike infrastructure. I am pro-multimodal infrastructure. And in a perfect world with unlimited resources, we would literally do everything. Unfortunately, we do not live in la-la land where we have unlimited resources. And so we do have to prioritize... we have a greater need for infrastructure in many parts of Vancouver that is underserviced. The Broadway corridor is one of the most well served corridors in the city. We have a full bike lane on 10th Avenue with additional routes on 7th, 8th, and 14th. And using limited funds in these to build new, you know, not totally necessary lanes on Broadway would impact our ability to improve active transportation corridors, including Portside Greenway, Kent Avenue, Eastside Crosscut, Robson Pedestrian Improvements, and Granville Street."
We're moving Active Transportation funding from Broadway to Kent Avenue

Funding Active Transportation along Kent Avenue
"... look we we love cyclists I think decisions that we've made in council in the past really help us be able to make investments and have the opportunity to make these decisions with you know when it comes to adding a fifth bike lane within a couple hundred meters of broadway you know I know there's been some you know public you know grief around that but when we make those hard decisions we're able to create opportunities where we can add more bike infrastructure where we are not served at all and so I'm glad we are finally looking at this and I'm highly encouraged I hope we see a day very soon where we can ride the Arbutus Greenway and then connect on additional infrastructure and go right down to the river district and over to Burnaby
