New Westminster

The HUB New Westminster Local Committee is a volunteer group advocating for safer, more accessible cycling and active transportation in New Westminster.

Join us for a social ride, event or a monthly meeting to see how you can help improve cycling and active travel in New Westminster.

We work with city staff and officials, provincial authorities and other community organizations to push for better infrastructure and to get more people biking and using active travel. We also host events and social rides to celebrate biking and build community across our city.

As one of HUB Cycling’s ten local committees, we're led by residents like you—no experience needed!

Everyone’s welcome, no experience required.

What do Local Committee do?

HUB Local Committees are at the heart of HUB's advocacy efforts. Made up of people who live, work, bike, walk, and vote in their communities, committee members bring valuable lived experience to the table. They're in the best position to speak up and push for safety improvements where they matter most. Here are some of the things our committees do:

  • Writing letters to decision-makers
  • Providing feedback on future transportation projects
  • Meeting with politicians, planners, and engineers
  • Organizing rides to assess cycling conditions
  • Hosting community events and building local alliances
  • Local Committees are the backbone of HUB Cycling’s advocacy, and the work they do has already led to major improvements across the region.

Visit the Committee Wiki pages to see examples of past letters sent to decision makers, committee assessment bike ride infrastructure reports and past meeting minutes.

What are the benefits of joining a Local Committee?

When you join a Local Committee, you get the chance to:

  • Work directly with municipal staff, elected officials and community organization,
  • Help solve local road and sidewalk problems and learn how they affect local communities ,
  • Build leadership skills and grow your confidence in advocacy and teamwork,
  • Expand your network by connecting with new people who share your passion ,
  • Help improve the livability and safety of neighborhoods.

Everyone is welcome—no experience needed!

HUB Cycling views the diversity of our members and communities as assets and strive to create and sustain a diverse and culturally competent organization that reflects the populations we serve. This is central to our mission, “to get more people cycling more often” and to our ongoing efforts to remove barriers to cycling.

Cycling Maps
