Everyone Rides Grade 4-5
The Everyone Rides Grade 4-5 program provides British Columbia elementary students with skills, confidence and the opportunity to learn to ride their bikes to and from school. Cycling education for elementary students helps:
- reach goals related to Vision Zero, climate action, active transportation, and healthy communities
- provide a safer way for students to get daily physical exercise and move within their community during the COVID-19 pandemic
- to raise a generation of sustainable transportation users and safe road users
Universal cycling education in schools is an effective way to raise a generation of sustainable transportation users and safe road users. Every child should receive cycling education before finishing elementary school (much like they do in many European jurisdictions). This creates a systemic culture of cycling that permeates student, parent and teacher lifestyles and transportation choices. HUB Cycling is excited to work with the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure to make universal cycling education a reality for British Columbia youth.
The Everyone Rides Grade 4-5 program is in its 4th year with the goal of reaching 128 public schools and over 13,000 grade 4 and 5 students in Metro Vancouver, the Fraser Valley, the Capital Regional District, Kelowna, Nelson, Rossland, Prince George and surrounding areas in the 2023/2024 school year.
Program Overview
Who: Grade 4-5 students in British Columbia
Where: Metro Vancouver, Fraser Valley, the Capital Regional District, Kelowna, Kootenays, Prince George, and surrounding areas, ultimately delivered across British Columbia
What: Two cycling education sessions in schools with provided bicycles (including adaptive bikes for kids with mobility challenges) and helmets:
o Day 1: In-Class or Online Introduction to Cycling and Helmet Safety – 45-60 minutes
o Day 2: Learn2Ride* Schoolground Cycling Skills Training – 70-90 minutes

When: Spring (April-June) and Fall (September - November) each year (running since 2020)
How: Led by HUB Cycling and funded by the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure, as part of CleanBC’s Move. Commute. Connect. strategy for cleaner, more active transportation.
2022/2023 school year in review
Through the fall of 2022 and the spring of 2023, the Everyone Rides Grade 4-5 program reached over 9,900 students through a combination of online, in-class, and on-bike learning, contributing to the goal of universal cycling education in British Columbia.
Learn2Ride Online is currently available to schools where in-person programming is not currently permitted or available. Register your class for Learn2Ride Online this season!
