Seawall barrier removal to improve accessibility for hand cyclists, cargo bikes, and trailers with children in them
Meeting Date:
Motion to remove barriers to hand cyclists on the Stanley Park Seawall
... with all the talk of accessibility in Stanley Park, I think this is a really timely motion to address something that affects accessibility of a lot of people, not just hand cyclists, but also cargo bikes, people with trailers with children in them. So there's lots of people that are affected by these gates. And I think we're talking about accessibility.
It's accessibility for everybody. And I think this is a really great move towards making our seawall more accessible. Thank you.
Beach Ave. bike lane is one of the good things that came out of COVID
Meeting Date:
Parks Board Vote to block City Council decision to return two-way traffic to Beach Avenue
This isn't solving an accessibility issue. There's full access to all areas of the park The current bike lane is a AAA bike line, which, which the city staff confirmed during the meeting. There are multiple exits out to the West End right now, which aren't causing issues the traffic. And staff confirmed that adding this additional lane of traffic Exiting the park is really gonna quite likely increase rat running through the park, which is a safety issue. You know people say well, let's go back to the way it was before COVID. And I talked with us in a radio interview today. You know there's a lot of good things that came out of COVID and that we've learned and I think the Beach Ave. bike lane is one of those fantastic changes that we've all benefited from.
