Earlier this month, cycling advocates from across Metro Vancouver, partner organizations, City Councillors, Mayors, and our long-standing members, volunteers, and supporters came out in full force to celebrate and toast HUB’s 25th Anniversary. HUB Cycling’s local committees organized five different group rides from Surrey, New Westminster, and the North Shore for people interested in riding their bikes to the celebration in Burnaby.

The event started with a land acknowledgment and welcome message from Elder Carleen Thomas, Special Projects Manager for the Treaty Lands and Resources Department of the Tsleil-Waututh Nation. Elder Thomas’ land acknowledgment was followed by remarks from Burnaby Mayor Mike Hurley and City Council members from different municipalities acknowledging the hard work, dedication, and perseverance of cycling advocates in building a safe and connected network for people of all ages and abilities.

A storytelling session moderated by HUB’s Executive Director Erin O’Melinn charted the history of the organization's involvement in cycling advocacy, education, and community events. Richard Campbell, one of Vancouver Area Cycling Coalition’s (now HUB Cycling) founding members, Mia Kohout, Director of Vancouver Bike Share | MOBI and former HUB Cycling Go By Bike Week Founder, Lorraine Smith, HUB Cycling’s Everyone Rides Grade 4 and 5 Manager, Andrew Feltham, New Westminster Local Committee Chair and Navdeep Chhina, HUB’s Director of Campaigns and Inclusion, shared stories from the early days of cycling advocacy and HUB’s ambitions for the future.

HUB acknowledges the generous support of our partners like Richards Buell Sutton LLP who sponsored portions of this celebration and for their long-standing commitment to safer biking across Metro Vancouver.

HUB Cycling would also like to thank TransLink for providing raffle prizes, Stanley Park Brewing, and Colin Stein, author of Van Bikes books for generously donating his books as prizes.

We are proud that we have stayed true to our mission to make Metro Vancouver happier, healthier, and more sustainable by getting more people cycling more often.

If you are a fan of HUB Cycling’s advocacy work and want to keep the amazing successes of our campaigns going you can help support us and make it safer and more connected for everyone.

We kindly ask you to consider making a monthly donation to HUB Cycling. Your contribution will directly fund our work to get more people cycling more often with year-round support. No donation is too small, and every dollar makes a significant difference.
