Job Posting: Community Manager
HUB Cycling seeks a Community Manager to support the advocacy work of HUB Cycling’s ten Local Committees. The Community Manager will report to the Director of Campaigns and Inclusion. Working closely with Local Committees (LC), the Community Manager will collaborate with communities to build a safe and complete cycling network across Metro Vancouver.
HUB Cycling is a charitable not-for-profit organization that has spent more than two decades removing barriers to cycling in Metro Vancouver, while cultivating the health, environmental, and economic benefits that active transportation can bring. HUB Cycling has educated and motivated thousands of people, and championed improvements that #UnGapTheMap to create a more connected cycling network.

RESPONSIBILITIES
COMMUNITY CAPACITY BUILDING (80%)
- Build the capacity of volunteer Local Committees through increased attendance, engagement, diversity, equity, inclusion, training and coaching
- Participate in local committee meetings to support capacity building
- Develop and coordinate advocacy campaigns
- Engage and build relationships with First Nations leaders and governments, municipal leaders, and community groups and support LCs to do the same
- Build and maintain relationships with non-traditional allies, such as health authorities and urban planning groups (e.g., Strong Towns, Fraser Health), to broaden advocacy reach
- Develop and implement strategies to attract and retain younger members and diverse voices within Local Committees
- Plan and organize webinars, public events, presentations, forums, bike rides and meetings to promote HUB Cycling’s strategic advocacy goals
- Help local committees to plan and develop annual plans, persuasive media campaigns, newsletters, and other campaign materials
- Engage with cycling advocacy organizations to partner on cross-organizational programs and opportunities
MEMBERSHIP PROGRAM (20%)
- Cross-promote memberships with like-minded organizations
- Expand HUB’s Lifetime memberships
- Plan and host membership events like the Annual General Meeting
YOU
Are an exceptional time manager with a keen sense for prioritizing
- Passionate about active transportation
- Think strategically while considering social, political, economic, and other relevant factors at play
- Have experience working with elected officials or Indigenous leadership
- Empower others by effectively recruiting, mentoring, and supporting volunteers to amplify our collective impact
- Take initiative, are highly self-motivated, and can work independently, while also being a strong contributor to a vibrant team
QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
- 3-5 years of relevant work experience with proven ability to manage volunteer life cycles, including recruitment, training, and ongoing stewardship to ensure a positive and impactful volunteer experience
- Persuasive storytelling skills with the ability to write plain language communications that inspire people to take action. HUB recognizes that 26 percent of people in B.C. speak a language other than Indigenous languages, English or French as their first language. We respect and value all the different languages spoken by people across the province
- Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with partners, volunteers and staff
- Commitment to the principles of diversity, equity and inclusion
- Exceptional time management and organizational skills, ability to manage multiple priorities
- Competency with computer software, including Google Suite, Drupal and Keela or similar CRM
- Experience engaging underserved/marginalized groups or communities
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
This is a permanent flexible position (30 hours/week) starting immediately with annual compensation of $50,357 to $57,107 depending on experience.
The successful candidate will need access to their own cell phone and a reliable home internet connection, and must be available for occasional evening and weekend work to support meetings and events.
All staff are expected to work remotely part-time. Office space is available for up to three days a week at 312 Main Street, Vancouver. Staff must be reasonably available at least once per week for in-person meetings and events in Metro Vancouver.
