Vancouver Park Board Closes Off Safe Cycling Option

Why did people create the 'desire line' path (brown) that cuts across the southwest corner of Kits Beach Park, when there's a paved, bike-ped path (blue) leading to the corner of Cornwall and Balsam?

To avoid the conflict point at the corner of Cornwall and Balsam streets. Cornwall Avenue is currently a gap in the cycling network - unsuitable for all ages and abilities (AAA) cycling. This specific corner is espoecially busy and complicated for all modes to navigate safely, and our HUB Vancouver/UBC Committee has been very concerned about safety issues there for years.

Closing off this desire line path ignores the natural impulses for people on foot and two wheels to avoid risk of collision - why won't the Park Board work to understand the factors that created this path, and make efforts to facilitate safe cycling and walking?

We're not sure.
