Meet our Members: Jennifer values the connections cycling has helped her form

HUB members are passionate individuals, families and organizations who are committed to making cycling in Metro Vancouver safer and more accessible to everyone!

This month we caught up with new HUB member and Vancouver transplant Jennifer! Jennifer is a Grade 5 French immersion teacher in Burnaby who cycles from Point Grey to the VCC Clark Skytrain to get to work most days. Jennifer is also the co-founder of Muzewest Concerts - a non-profit organization that brings classical music into schools for kids who can't afford music lessons or tickets to attend performances

Originally from Red Deer, Alberta, Jennifer says she’s growing thicker skin each Vancouver winter and has almost gotten used to riding in the rain.

During her eight years of teaching, she has used her bicycle to get to work quicker, however, she says that cycling has offered her more than just a faster way to get to work. She really appreciates that it has given her a way to access local, small businesses that are not close to a bus route and has helped her release stress after a long day of teaching, concert-planning, and practising piano.

In addition, cycling has offered Jennifer a chance to reduce her carbon footprint and made her a part of of a community who values cycling for a variety of its benefits.

Jennifer recently joined HUB as a member to become more educated as a cyclist. “I wanted to know about cycling events, networking with other cyclists, and how to keep my bike more secure (apart from sleeping beside it at all times)!”

She also intends to take the course in Spring 2017 on how to be a bike instructor.

Thanks for joining the HUB community Jennifer!
