With Great Sadness - Steve Beck, BEST

March 2, 2015

HUB Cycling staff, Board, members and volunteers are saddened by the recent passing of Steve Beck, Executive Administrator of BEST (Better Environmentally Sound Transportation), a loved and valued member of the Metro Vancouver transportation community.

During six years at BEST, Steve was instrumental in developing and implementing important (and popular) programs like The Bicycle Valet, STAR, The Bus Co-op, and June is Bike Month - all of which helped promote active transportation and mode share alternatives across the region.

“Steve was an important influencer in Metro Vancouver's active transportation scene,” said Erin O’Melinn, Executive Director of HUB Cycling. “He made a positive impact in creating more accessible transportation for all ages and abilities. We will miss his persevering work ethic, along with his great sense of humour and joyful laugh.”

“We got to know Steve quite well over the years through our mutual commitment to making Vancouver a better place to walk and bike, and our shared concerns about the impacts of climate change,” added Lisa Slakov, co-Chair of the Vancouver/UBC HUB Committee. “We’ll really miss him.”
