TransLink Seeks Feedback on Base Plan

October 4, 2013

From Oct. 3 to Oct. 18, 2013, TransLink is accepting feedback on the draft 2014 Base Plan and Outlook through their 2014 Base Plan Survey. Tell them what you think of the plan, the projects and priorities so they can be used to update the plan.

When HUB looked at the plan, we noticed cycling funding did not receive any increases (even for inflation), set to receive $2.55 million out of the $1.49 billion that will be spent in 2014. This means cycling is getting less than 0.2% of the total despite 2% of the Metro Vancouver population already cycling (see page 36 of the base plan for trip diary results).

Another interesting tidbit: The 2014 Base Plan identifies up to $299 million in funding for rehabilitation of the Pattullo Bridge. Note the Patullo Bridge carries fewer people than the regional cycling network does (even in its incomplete state) yet the bridge gets 100+ times the funding.  Review Gordon Price's blog about it here.

Tell TransLink what you think.
