Shopping by Bike in Steveston
HUB Cycling is challenging you to shop by bike and explore new neighbourhoods this Summer.
Nestled in the southwest corner of Richmond is Steveston. A charming historic fishing village that has maintained its heritage while offering modern amenities. Whether you're a local or visiting from outside Richmond, exploring Steveston by bike is the perfect way to enjoy this picturesque neighbourhood, with heritage buildings and historic sites that offer a glimpse into its maritime past.
Plan your journey into the neighbourhood using our Bike to Shop map. Routes are labelled by comfort level to help you decide which is the best street for you. If you're coming from outside Richmond, why not bike to transit for part of the journey? Steveston is just a 30-minute bike ride from the Richmond-Brighouse SkyTrain Station. Start your journey by taking the quieter streets of Cook Road and Buswell Street before heading west on Granville Avenue. While Granville can be busy, a dedicated bike path with protective bollards along most of the route separates people on bikes from motor traffic.
After about 3 km, you'll pass the Thompson Community Centre. Follow the road to the right and soon reach the Granville Railway Mountain Bike Park. If you're up for it, take a quick detour to test your biking skills before continuing south on the Railway Avenue Bikeway.
Railway Avenue is a multi-use pathway that takes you through one of Richmond's most popular greenways. With 700 to 1,000 daily cycling trips, the Railway Greenway is an essential ecological corridor in the city. It's home to community gardens, rainwater storage, and natural habitats, offering a peaceful and scenic ride. This is a multi-use pathway, so stay alert for pedestrians and dogs enjoying this lovely route.
Railway Avenue will bring you straight into the heart of the village; take Westwater Drive to find the Britannia Shipyards National Historic Site, and continue East along Dyke Road. You'll enjoy gorgeous views of Steveston Harbour until you arrive at Sanctuary Cafe, one of the lower mainland's most bike-friendly coffee shops that believe that cycling is meant to be social as much as about improving health and well-being. Their social road cycling club, Steveston Velo, meets weekly to build a community around cycling for all skill levels.

On the west side of the Harbour, you'll find a mixture of casual and high-end restaurants, breweries, shops and services catered to tourists and locals alike. Whether it's a bowl of ramen from G-Men, a visit to Rockstar Optical or a quick trim and shave at Steveston Barbers, there are plenty of street racks along the two main commercial roads on Moncton and Chatham Streets. Doing a grocery run, Super Grocer & Pharmacy has a covered bike rack by the carts or if you need a longer solution, why not take advantage of the Bike Valet beside the parking lot near the Gulf of Georgia Cannery museum, opening weekends and holidays, 11 AM - 7 PM until September 8.
