HUB Cycling is thrilled to announce our Fall Go by Bike Weeks Grand Prize winner: Chelsea Leslie! As a year-round cyclist and staff member at the Vancouver Public Library, Chelsea embodies the joy, sustainability, and dedication that cycling brings to everyday life.

We had the chance to chat with Chelsea about her cycling journey and what this new chapter with her brand new OHM Cruise E-Bike means for her.

Cycling as a Way of Life

Chelsea’s commitment to cycling began in 2019 when she decided to bike to work. What started as a practical commute quickly became a way of life. Cycling, she says, is about more than transportation—it’s her source of energy, clarity, and connection.

“Cycling to work makes me feel more energized and clear-headed,” she said. “I sleep a lot better during the work week, and I notice benefits to my mental health.”

Now, Chelsea bikes to work five days a week and she wouldn’t have it any other way!

Embracing the Ride, Rain or Shine

One of Chelsea’s favorite things about cycling is the opportunity to connect with nature and the changing seasons. Springtime commutes are especially magical, with blooming cherry blossoms and vibrant flowers lining her route. Even in the rainy winter months, Chelsea finds joy in her rides, appreciating the sense of coziness that comes after a wet and chilly commute.

“I don’t mind biking in the rain—it makes me feel extra cozy once I’m inside,” she shared.

Community Connection during Go by Bike Week

For the past four years, Chelsea has been an enthusiastic participant in Go by Bike Week, joining her workplace team to track kilometers and celebrate the environmental benefits of cycling. Seeing how her team contributes to reducing greenhouse gas emissions has been a motivating factor.

“It’s always inspiring to see what we’ve accomplished together,” she said. “And it’s a great way to connect with my coworkers who also cycle.”

When asked what advice she would give to people who are new to cycling, Chelsea emphasized the importance of good gear: rain gear, bright lights, and reflective vests for safety and comfort. She also reminds riders not to worry about perfection: “It’s totally okay to walk your bike up hills—I do it all the time!”

A New Adventure with An E-Bike

As the Grand Prize winner, Chelsea is excited to explore new possibilities with her new e-bike.

“I’ve always been curious about e-bikes, and I think this will encourage me to cycle even more,” she said. “I’m so excited to go farther and explore more without needing to walk my bike up hills!”

Congratulations, Chelsea, and happy riding with your new OHM Cruise e-bike!
