HUB Cycling is seeking a Bike Education Manager to support education programs in elementary schools and communities throughout Metro Vancouver. This position provides an exciting opportunity to support cycling programs for thousands of people and develop people and program management skills.

About HUB Cycling’s Bike Education Programs:

HUB Cycling delivers bike education programs to thousands of youth and adults across Metro Vancouver annually. Our courses are customized for various ages and skill levels and are delivered by our team of trained instructors at schools, community centers, and workplaces. Participants build the skills and confidence needed for safe and enjoyable urban cycling and consistently report cycling more often after taking a course. 

HUB Cycling has two primary education programs: Bike to School and StreetWise. Bike to School includes courses run in Metro Vancouver elementary and middle schools along with the provincial Everyone Rides Grade 4-5 program. StreetWise includes online and in-person courses for the public and specialized courses for specific communities and workplaces. 

 

Position Summary:

The Bike Education Manager will report to the Director of Bike Education and will supervise Bike Education Coordinators (3 staff).

 

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the hiring, training, and ongoing supervision of Bike Education Coordinators.
  • Understand all details of HUB Cycling’s Bike to School program delivery, including course delivery, contract targets, and municipal school systems.  
  • Oversee all aspects of Coordinator deliverables such as school outreach and booking process, including all program logistics, ensuring best practices are consistently applied.
  • Oversee coordination of storage and equipment for programs, including vehicles, bikes, gear, and program materials, including fleet maintenance. 
  • Set overall program schedules, ensuring effective use of staff and equipment resources.
  • Improve outreach, coordination, and program delivery systems and processes as necessary.
  • Coordinate longitudinal outcome surveys for programs and assist in compiling and analyzing program data and reporting.
  • Provide strategic and operational input to the future planning of HUB’s bike education programs.
  • Assist with bike education marketing and promotion plan, including coordinating photo shoots, press releases and regular email newsletters, with Marketing Manager support.
  • Assist with communications, social media and website updates as necessary.
  • Willingness to become an on-call Bike Education Instructor to cover shifts at schools from time to time. Support Instructor Manager by responding to occasional sick calls outside of office hours.
  • Support the Director of Bike Education with funder, school board and external stakeholder communication including preparation of proposals, reports and presentations.
  • Support the development of new programming, including custom and new programs in schools.
  • Support additional tasks as needed and as agreed upon with the Director of Bike Education.
     

Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills:

  • Committed to the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • 2+ years of relevant experience
  • Demonstrated proficiency in leading a team to strong results and with high retention.
  • Friendly, professional, and an excellent communicator who enjoys being a central point of contact for internal contacts and working as part of a close-knit team.
  • Exceptional time management and organizational skills, ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and skilled at working with many moving parts and logistics to run effective and efficient programming.
  • Flexible and able to adapt to the peaks and flows of seasonal programs. 
  • Confident and efficient using computer programs, primarily Google Workspace (mail, calendar, sheets & docs).
  • Ability to meet the requirements of a Bike Education Instructor, including being certified in Standard First Aid & CPR-C, completing the Advance Your Ride training course, and are willing to obtain a current Criminal Record Check for working with vulnerable populations.
  • Generally knowledgeable about urban cycling rules and trends, cycling instruction methodology, and related matters.

 

Bonus points for:

  • Experience working with public school systems.
  • Proficient with communication tools such as Keela and website updates.
  • Familiarity with conducting program evaluation.
  • Experience working in a non-profit organization.

 

Terms: 

This is a full-time position with the flexibility to work 30-35 hours/week. Starting mid-late January with compensation of $44,400-58,000 per year depending on experience and hours. 

All staff are expected to work remotely part-time. The successful candidate will need access to their own cell phone and a reliable home internet connection. Office space is available for up to three days a week at 312 Main Street, Vancouver. Staff must be reasonably available at least once weekly for in-person meetings and events in Metro Vancouver.
