Bike Reels: Student Video Contest Winners Announced

There are tons of great reasons to ride a bike, but this year, we wanted to hear from youth who cycle in Metro Vancouver about what motivates them to hop in the saddle. We invited youth 18 and under to film short videos about biking, walking and rolling to school; how they get ready to ride, how they stay safe, and what they love about active travel.

We received submissions in all age categories from all over Metro Vancouver, and our judges panel was in awe of the creative, thoughtful, and downright hilarious films created by students. After two rounds of consideration, the winners were chosen:

Honourable Mention: K - Gr. 2

Cassidy Bikes to Kindergarten by Cassidy Ageson-Baxter
(Kindergarten, Sir Wilfred Laurier Elementary School, Vancouver)

Honourable Mention: Gr. 3-5

Bike Safety: A How-To by Quinlan Floyd
(Gr 5, L'Ecole Bilingue Elementary, Vancouver)

Honourable Mention: Gr. 6-8

Walk to School by Lucas Fong
(Gr 7, Scott Creek Middle School, Coquitlam)

Honourable Mention: Gr. 9-12

Vicky and Enya's Bike to School Week by Enya Zeng & Vicky Qiu

And if you’re planning on attending the Bike Shorts film fest this year (Nov 5th), look out for Brennan King’s grand prize-winning short film Ride Your Bike!
