Vancouver to SFU Cycling Connection Recommendations
The City of Burnaby is seeking feedback on its plan to improve the Frances-Union Bikeway and Burnaby Mountain Parkway to better connect these routes to key areas, including Simon Fraser University (SFU), the Union-Adanac Bikeway in Vancouver and other local and regional destinations. The City is also aiming to improve the nearby Gaglardi Way. This project is part of Burnaby’s Transportation Plan: Connecting Burnaby. It supports the City of Burnaby goal to improve everyone's walking, cycling and rolling experiences.
The HUB Cycling Burnaby Committee is enthusiastic about the proposed SFU-Vancouver cycling connection project plan and has outlined recommendations below for completing the City of Burnaby Feedback Survey.
Please take the survey by February 25th.
Burnaby Local Committee Feedback
In general, the Burnaby Local Committee finds the project plan to be game changing and forward thinking. A plan that truly invests in the future of our community’s health by making
safe and equitable improvements to cycling infrastructure all while acting on climate change initiatives.
A few recurring key details the Burnaby Committee likes are:
- Continuous sidewalks along the route.
- Speed cushions and street paint.
- Added diverters throughout the route to calm the streets.
- Safer crossings at key intersections.
- Addition of protected bike lanes.
