Thank You.

On behalf of HUB Cycling, we want to thank you for your contributions to HUB Cycling.

Cycling continues to show its importance and resilience in overcoming increasingly intense challenges of affordability, equity, climate crisis, and covid recovery. Due to the long-standing efforts and relationships that HUB Cycling has built, decision-makers and the public recognize the value of cycling more than ever in supporting our communities and shared goals.

None of this work would have been possible without the support of significant contributors like you.

Your contributions helped HUB Cycling create valuable tools to teach cycling education, advocate for safer and connected infrastructure, and stay engaged with our communities.

We are proud of how HUB Cycling has been adapting to support cycling:

  • Our vision to achieve universal school cycling education is progressing, with over 21,000 kids trained from Metro Vancouver, Victoria, Kelowna and West Kootenays. In 2023 we are looking to expand the program to more rural and remote communities across the province. Data shows that participants are more likely to continue cycling for transportation after the courses, which is the lasting impact we aim for!
  • HUB Cycling was influential in advocating for improving policies supporting safe and connected cycling, including legislative reform to our outdated Motor Vehicle Act. A Safe Passing Distance Law and better vulnerable road user protections will come to the BC Legislature this spring. We strongly advocated that the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure (MoTI) dramatically increase its investment in cycling projects to at least $100 million per year.
  • HUB Cycling continued to expand #UnGapTheMap initiatives. We published a research report making a case for Cycle Highways in Metro Vancouver. Research and analysis are underway to understand and promote equity in the cycling network, older building end-of-trip facilities, and cycling highways.
  • Leading up to the 2022 Municipal Elections, HUB Cycling invited candidates across Metro Vancouver to endorse HUB's Cycling Platform and clarify their positions on active transportation and cycling, and we generated significant media attention.
  • To better represent the Metro Vancouver population, HUB Cycling formed a Youth Advisory Committee. HUB Cycling Local Committees sent more than 80 recommendation letters to government decision-makers throughout the year, engaging and influencing bike-friendly progress.
  • In spring 2022, we launched the StreetWise Cycling Education Centre, our first in-person location with practice bikes available to improve equity and access for equity-deserving people, including adaptive bikes and training from Spinal Cord Injury BC.

Our work to get more people cycling more often is more critical than ever. We are so grateful to the volunteers, members, staff and board for creating healthier, happier, more connected communities.

However, investing in more advocacy work comes with additional costs, and we cannot do it without your contributions.

Thank you,

HUB Cycling
