Support Motor Vehicle Reform

📣 Lend Your Voice: Support and Join the MVA Reform Working Group!
The MVA Reform Working Group is a powerful, inter-organizational coalition of advocates, public health experts (VCH, Fraser Health), and cycling groups (HUB Cycling, BCCC) dedicated to advancing critical, evidence-based legislative changes to the BC Motor Vehicle Act (MVA). By engaging provincial ministries (MoTT) and producing strategic white papers, we are actively driving reforms that secure safer and more liveable communities across British Columbia.
Why Your Organization Should Act Now:
- Become a Public Supporter: Lend your organization's name to the growing list of MVA reform supporters. Your endorsement is vital—it demonstrates broad community and sector alignment on these life-saving measures, increasing the pressure on government to prioritize road safety.
- Consider Joining the Working Group: Go beyond endorsement. We invite organizations with relevant expertise in policy, law, research, or public health to actively join the MVA Reform Working Group to help shape our strategy and outcomes.
Key Current Objectives:
- Safe Neighbourhood Speeds: Mandating a provincial default 30 km/hour speed limit on residential (no center line) streets.
- Safe Intersections: Introducing a provincial law to disallow right turns on red lights (No Right Turn on Red, or NRToR) to protect vulnerable road users.
- Automated Enforcement: Advocating for the expansion of the provincial Automated Speed Enforcement (ASE) program with greater municipal input.
The Working Group also addresses emerging issues like micromobility age restrictions and the lateral protection (side guards) of large commercial vehicles, aiming to secure safer and more liveable communities across BC.
We are always seeking representation from people with lived experiences and organizations/advocacy groups representing marginalized communities. For more information about this Working Group, please contact: Navdeep Chhina, Director of Campaigns and Inclusion, HUB Cycling mva @ bikehub . ca
