The Bike Share Dilemma

What's the Deal with Shared Micromobility?

Shared micromobility is one of the fastest growing modes of transportation today. You might know it as Mobi, Lime, Bixi, CitiBike, Bird, Spin, Divvy, Indego, Metrobike, or a number of other names.

In Canada, one of the fastest growing systems on the continent is BikeShare Toronto. Its ridership has doubled since the pandemic, and continues to break records every year. Next door in Montreal, Bixi, is one of the most successful bike share systems in the world.

But what about us West Coasters?

In Metro Vancouver, shared bikes and scooters are often expensive, messy, and only available in certain areas. The services can be unreliable, with companies changing every other year or even shutting down.

Different service providers cover different Metro Vancouver municipalities - the region does not have a connected network. See for yourself below. Four different providers offer bike share or scooter share in Metro Vancouver - it's a bit of a mess!
