Vancouver Aquarium
Biking to work at the Vancouver Aquarium is a regular part of the job for some staff and volunteers. The Vancouver Aquarium is dedicated to the conservation of aquatic life, so it’s no surprise that the people working and volunteering at the Aquarium are dedicated too.
“By riding our bikes to work, we’re cutting down on greenhouse gas emissions, which is one more thing we can do to help conserve aquatic life” says Jonathan Hultquist, Vancouver Aquarium manager of public programs and past Green Team president.
The Aquarium promotes cycling to work by providing locked bike storage onsite and occasional workshops on bike safety. Recently, the Aquarium installed a bike repair toolbox that staff and volunteers can use to repair their bicycles at work. There is a core group of cyclists that ride to the Aquarium year-round as well as a number of fair-weather cyclists that make the commute during the more pleasant times of year.
