Your Feedback Sought for Massey Tunnel Replacement

January 13, 2016

As you may know, the BC Ministry of Transportation & Infrastructure (MoTI) is planning to replace the existing George Massey Tunnel, which links Richmond and Delta, with new bridge construction starting in 2017. The tunnel currently serves as a critical connection for much Metro Vancouver to Delta and the Tsawwassen ferry terminal via Highway 91, and currently provides no built-in facilities for bicycle or pedestrian traffic.

This project would also replace interchanges at Westminster Highway, Steveston Highway and Highway 17A.

The current bridge design concept made available by MoTI as part of the project definition depicts 10 lanes for motor vehicle traffic, and a multi-use pathway for cycling and walking.

The project is now about to undergo review by BC's Environmental Assessment Office. As part of their commitment to public consultation, MoTI is seeking seeking public comments is to ensure that all environmental, economic, social, heritage and health impacts resulting from the project are identified.
