On March 8th, 2025, HUB Cycling hosted its 12th Annual Bike Awards at MEC Vancouver, celebrating the individuals and organizations dedicated to improving active transportation in their communities across British Columbia.

The event brought together nearly 200 cycling advocates, politicians, and decision-makers to recognize efforts that made biking safer and more accessible in 2024. Guests were treated to sweet treats from Uno Gelato and Bon Macaron along with refreshments from event partners ConoSur Vineyards and Winery, The Coffee Bike, PURE Vodka Soda, and Nude Beverages.

The evening hosted by Uytae Lee, founder of About Here, highlighted significant contributions to the cycling community. Notable recognitions included the Arno Schortinghuis Cycling Champion of the Year Award presented to former One City Councillor Christine Boyle for her advocacy of bike-friendly policies during her tenure on Vancouver’s City Council. The Government of British Columbia’s Ministry of Transportation and Transit (MOTT) was awarded the Biggest Leap Award for their support of active transportation initiatives, including income-adjusted e-bike rebates and the expansion of cycling education across the province.

Bonita Zarrillo, MP for Port Moody- Coquitlam attended the event to present an Infrastructure Improvement Award to the City of Port Moody for the St. John's Street Multi-Use Pathway, the city's first protected bike lane through the city centre, and MLA Susie Chant presented another Infrastructure award to the District of North Vancouver for the Mount Seymour Parkway Active Transportation Rapid Implementation project, which added over 4 km of protected bike lanes.

For the first time, a project outside of Metro Vancouver was awarded a HUB Bike Award; the Comox Valley Cycling Coalition and School District 71 won the Cycling Education Champion award for expanding their school cycling curriculum through the District Bikes lending program which has almost entirely removed barriers to access for a community heavily reliant on cars for transportation.

Over 20 individuals and organizations were celebrated during the ceremony; view the full list of winners here

The evening also featured fundraising activities, with prizes generously donated by CinCin Ristorante + Bar, LuLu Island Winery, Organika Health, Body Energy Club, DUER, Cycle City, Let's Go Biking, The Cultch, Aquabus Ferries, and Samsara Cycles.

$2,600+ was raised to directly support HUB Cycling’s advocacy work, furthering our mission to make cycling an attractive and accessible choice for all ages and abilities.

The HUB Bike Awards were made possible by the generous support of sponsors such as TransLink, Downtown Van, BCAA, Evolve, Richards Buell Sutton, Bunt & Associates, Urban Systems and Fairware who produced the awards, crafted from recycled chopsticks. Our sponsors’ contributions were instrumental in honouring the achievements and commitment to fostering a bike-friendly environment in BC.

The group stands in front of a retail display featuring mannequins dressed in outdoor clothing and a light green YETI cooler. Other attendees and event signage are visible in the background, creating a lively and social atmosphere. A row of bicycles is parked at a bike rack outside a building during the evening. A bright and colorful HUB Cycling banner reading "Your Cycling Connection" is prominently displayed next to the bikes. The scene is well-lit. A group of people gathers around a colorful prize wheel made from a bicycle wheel at an indoor event. One woman spins the wheel while others watch and laugh, clearly enjoying the activity. The table is filled with promotional materials, prizes, and signage. The setting appears to be a brightly lit retail store with glass doors and windows in the background.
