Meet Modo Business Members: Scavenger Coffee

Modo Business members Scavenger Coffee—built by Diana Lupieri and Rory Johnston—is a mobile coffee shop. Their carts are handmade from local and scavenged materials and use vintage Italian lever-pull espresso machines.

Usually, they get to their events by towing their coffee trailer behind a 1984 Kuwahara bike, plus a little help from two e-bike motors, but sometimes they have to get to venues outside of their bikeable range. Since selling their car in 2015, Rory and Diana have relied on carsharing services like Modo when their bikes don’t cut. So when they saw the need to move their coffee cart around, they signed up for a Modo Business membership.

Together they hope to inspire people to bike more, carshare, reduce traffic, and shift the city towards being more active and community-oriented - a vision they share with Modo and HUB Cycling.

The idea for a bicycle café started with Diana. She had worked for Shift Delivery, a local cargo bike delivery co-op, and was inspired by their great community and the potential of a bike-based business. That was where they first heard of Modo, as Shift Delivery used Modo’s RAV4 EV to deliver some of their cargo.

Scavenger Coffee is looking for buyers! If you’re a fan of cycling, coffee, and new adventures, be sure to contact them at hello@scavengercoffee.com for more details. If you don’t want to take on a whole business but just want some great coffee and hot chocolate at your office, they are also still booking catering events through December and would appreciate your support.

Their favorite cargo vans are the Nissan NV200 and Ram Promaster.

Although the Nissan NV200 and Ram Promaster cargo vans are their go-to picks, the Nissan pickup trucks will also fit everything you throw in them.
