Job posting: Everyone Rides Grade 4-5 Researcher (Contract)
Updated Oct 5th, 2022 - Position is now filled
OPPORTUNITY:
For almost a decade HUB Cycling has provided cycling education courses in Metro Vancouver elementary and middle schools, to over 52,000 students. In 2020 HUB Cycling launched Everyone Rides Grade 4-5, a program that provides school-based cycling education to the rest of British Columbia elementary schools. To date, we have worked with local partners in 3 other regions (the Capital Regional District, Kelowna and the West Kootenays) to provide funding and support to start-up and deliver school-based cycling education in their regions. Replicating HUB’s Metro Vancouver delivery model has been successful in larger urban areas with well established partner organizations. However, that model isn’t appropriate for small centres or rural areas that lack a sufficient concentration of schools or qualified instructors. As such, for the Everyone Rides Grade 4-5 (ERG45) program to expand to serve more rural and remote communities, the delivery mode must adapt.
Through fall and winter 2022-2023 HUB Cycling will devote resources to the research (through this position) and development of a province-wide delivery model. Focus will primarily be on feasible options, costing and logistics for delivery to rural/remote communities. It will require research and consultation with rural/remote communities and other provincial and national cycling or other outdoor/sport-based education organizations. It will also require consultation with HUB Cycling Bike Education staff and delivery partner staff, as well as direct observation of course delivery at one of more program sites.
Everyone Rides Grade 4-5 is funded by BC’s Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure. Funding has increased over the course of the last several years, with indicators that a budget is available to support the implementation of this province-wide delivery model. Providing universal and equitable access to programs such as Everyone Rides Grade 4-5 for rural, remote and/or Indigenous communities is a priority for the ministry and for HUB Cycling.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
-
Research provincial and national cycling or other outdoor/sport-based education organizations on their program delivery models
-
Consult with school and school district leaders (and possibly community organizations and/or Parent Advisory Councils) in the targeted delivery areas, HUB Cycling Bike Education staff and delivery partners on the considerations necessary for delivery to those areas

-
Results of consultations with school and school district leaders (and possibly community organizations and/or Parent Advisory Councils) in the targeted delivery areas on the considerations necessary for delivery to those areas
-
Supported recommendations for delivery models to support the province-wide expansion of the Everyone Rides Grade 4-5 program, including predicted costing and timelines
-
