HUB Cycling Hosts Vancouver’s First ‘Bike the Night’ Ride on September 16th

Over 1000 people on brightly-lit bikes to pedal under a full moon

Vancouver, BC / Aug 24, 2016 – Due to popular demand, HUB Cycling is organizing Vancouver’s first-ever Bike the Night event on Friday September 16, 2016.

Bike the Night is modelled after Tour La Nuit, a hugely popular annual night ride that takes place in both Ottawa and Montreal.

"The aim of Bike the Night is to celebrate cycling in Vancouver in an exciting new way," says Nya Worifah, HUB's Bike the Night Manager. “This new event is perfect for people of all ages who want to cycle in a fun and social environment.”

Bike the Night will kick off at 6pm with a pre-party featuring free snacks, bike repairs and giveaways for registered participants. The ride, which will take place under a full moon, begins at 7:30pm - just after sunset. The easy 10-kilometre route will take streets of Kitsilano as well as the new Arbutus Greenway, allowing people to experience nocturnal Vancouver at its best - by bike.

Participants are encouraged to play music, decorate their bikes with lights or even come in costume. There’ll also be a bike decorating station for some last-minute accessorizing.

“Fun and easy rides like this are important for motivating people to get on their bikes,” said Laura Jane, HUB’s Director of Corporate Engagement and Events. “We’re very excited to launch Bike the Night in Vancouver and look forward to seeing it grow in the years to come.”

Tickets start at just $10 for HUB Members or $15 for the general public. In addition to the ride, all participants receive a free Momentum Magazine, a gift card for a free flat repair from Reckless Bike Shops, snacks, giveaways and an entry to win an e-bike.

The event is also taking place as part of the International Pro-Walk Pro-Bike Pro-Place Conference in Vancouver Sep 12-15.
