Our panel of speakers, Minister Spencer Chandra Herbert, Louis Lalonde, Chief Aaron Pete, and Erin O’Melinn, will highlight Québec’s Route Verte, a renowned cycling route which has boosted economic prosperity for the province. They’ll also speak to how building safe and connected networks must be rooted in respect, Indigenous sovereignty, and cultural value. You’ll also hear how TransLink's Major Bike Network (MBN) will be key to promoting sustainable travel, healthier communities, and unlocking cycle tourism potential by creating seamless, comfortable routes.

Minister Herbert is the Minister of Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation and previously served as the Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture and Sport. Before becoming an MLA, Spencer was an award-winning artist and performing arts producer and was an elected Vancouver Park Board Commissioner from 2005 to 2008.

Louis Lalonde has been a project manager at Vélo Québec Association since 2019. He first worked with the Vélosympathique movement, a support and certification program for communities, employers, and campuses. Since 2024, he has been actively involved in the development and improvement of the Route verte, collaborating with local managers to strengthen the network’s quality, safety, and consistency.

Chief Aaron Pete is dedicated to connecting First Nations communities and inviting people of all backgrounds to explore the natural beauty of British Columbia. He played a key role in developing the Coast to Canyon Trail near Hope, ensuring the project reflects Indigenous values and creates opportunities for tourism, cultural learning, and deeper connections to the land.

Erin O'Melinn

Erin O'Melinn
Senior Manager, Transportation & Land Use Planning, TransLink

Erin O'Melinn leads the Major Bike Network (MBN) project at TransLink. Previously, she directed HUB Cycling for nearly 15 years, delivering advocacy, education, events, and research to get more people cycling. Erin has a Master of Urban Studies from SFU and has served on several active transportation boards.
