Demystify Your Brakes

This covers much of what you need to know about your brakes, from wear-and-tear assessment, to novice repairs of multiple brake systems.

We'll focus on cable-operated systems (including both rim and disc brakes), safety inspections, general maintenance, break pad replacement, and breaking system alignment.

Demystify Your Gears

Learn about the parts that help you ride smoothly and power up hills! This course covers derailleurs, shifting gears and chains, plus most of what you need to know to fix and repair your own drivetrain, no matter how new or old.

We also help you understand changes to bicycle industry standards, which can affect your decisions about what type of bike might work best for you.

Demystify Your Wheels & Emergency Repairs

What is wheel truing? Straightening your wheels is not a 'black art' – in this course, you’ll learn how to 'balance' your bike wheels and how to repair a wheel after it’s been damaged. We also cover spoke tension, the most important aspect of how bicycle wheels actually work.

The second half of the course will cover common side-of-the-road repair topics for long-distance commuting anbd bike touring such as fixing your chain, repairing a blown out tire, and other on the spot repairs.

Demystify Your Hub & Rotational Systems

This course explores what makes your wheels turn – from headset rotation and spinning pedals, to bearing systems and how to overhaul them.

This is essential learning if you cycle regularly; some bicycle bearing systems should be overhauled at least once a year. After this course, you’ll know how to replace, repack and adjust your bearing systems.

Practice wheels are available for newcomers to this course.
